Hard to get into.
Enjoyable reading but I expected it to have more descriptive situations that are specific of a true Italian person. JJ
Very descriptive, but with a definite tone of condescension, delivered backhandedly as only late 19th century Brits could do. While not meant to be - some passages are hilarious! An interesting read to be taken with a grain of salt.
I just couldn't get into the story, where was it?

This book was recommended to me by a friend as an introduction to the culture of North Italy. I suppose it is, but the narrative while informing, is ponderous and moves too slowly through the story.
